Itinerary

Day 1: Yulara to Uluru

Yulara, near Ayers Rock Airport (AYQ), is where your outback experience begins. People who arrive early can take the complimentary airport shuttle to Yulara Resort or Ayers Rock Campground and use the public pool before meeting the group. Be at the pickup area on Yulara Drive at least 10 minutes before the bus leaves. Please eat before Day 1 because lunch isn’t provided.

The Aboriginal Cultural Centre is your first destination. There, you’ll learn about the land’s cultural and spiritual importance. You can then take a guided tour of Uluru’s base, including rock art, waterholes such as Mutitjulu, and Dreaming stories such as Kuniya and Liru.

Kantju Gorge is home to Central Australia’s tallest waterfall, but only when it rains. The overhangs of the gorge once provided natural food storage for Aboriginal populations in the area. Watch the Uluru sunset at the end of the day, then have a quiet meal at the campground beneath the stars.

Travel Considerations

FLIGHTS ARRIVING – ALICE SPRINGS (airport code ASP)
Travellers must arrive the day before and stay one night in Alice Springs, as the tour departs early (around 6:00 am). We can arrange a pickup for the morning of the tour once the accommodations are confirmed. There are no pre- or post-tour airport transportation options offered.

FLIGHTS ARRIVING – AYERS ROCK AIRPORT (airport code AYQ)
Although we strive to accommodate every arriving flight, delays may occur if the party is visiting key locations. Both agents and visitors need to ensure that the flight itineraries align with the tour schedule.

On the first day, lunch is not included; attendees should eat before attending.

The free shuttle to Yulara Resort or the Ayers Rock Campground is available to early guests, who can unwind and utilise the pool there.

Please arrive ten minutes before departure on Yulara Drive.

DROP-OFFS IN AYERS ROCK / YULARA RESORT
On the last day, there is a return bus from Kings Canyon to Ayers Rock (leaving time around 12:30–1:00 pm). Seasonally, arrival times in Yulara range from 4:30–5:30 pm. This needs to be set up at the time of reservation.

UNEXPECTED DISRUPTIONS
Due to the possibility of delays, we highly advise against booking departure flights for the last day. Costs resulting from unanticipated disruptions are not the tour operator’s responsibility. It is advised to purchase travel insurance.

Important Information

Required Information: At the time of reservation, we need all passenger information in order to process your reservation. This includes the full name, birthdate, arrival and departure locations, flight numbers (e.g., AYQ/QF728 12:35 on 01/04/23), and the lead passenger’s phone number (Australian or international).

Nutritional Needs: Although we do our best to accommodate special dietary requirements, please inform your booking agent when you finalise your tour. We need advance notice to make appropriate plans, as the trip will take us through isolated areas with limited access to supplies.

Medical Conditions: When making a reservation, please mention any current medical conditions. Due to the physically demanding activities on this itinerary, travellers must be somewhat mobile and fit. Before departing, we strongly advise getting personal travel insurance.

Fitness Level: Participants in this tour must be moderately to highly fit. Daily walks should be between 2–4 km long and often traverse rocky, uneven terrain, especially in full sun or humid conditions. There is also a longer walk of about 9–11 km. Travellers over 75 must have a doctor’s certificate, which must be presented at least 30 days prior to departure.

Age Limitations: Throughout the trip, children ages 8 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult or legal guardian. Due to safety concerns and the strenuous nature of the hikes, the tour cannot accept newborns or children under 7.

Mobility-Related Considerations: Visitors with restricted mobility or who rely on mobility aids such as wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, or prams should not take this tour.

Baggage Limitations: Our car has limited storage space.

Round-Trip Tours: One 15-kg soft travel bag and one 5-kg daypack are allowed per participant.

For the duration of the excursion, larger bags should be kept at your lodging. For one-way tours, visitors may bring one 23-kilogram travel bag and one 5-kilogram daypack.

Changes to the Itinerary: We modify our routes in response to seasonal fluctuations, cultural closures, or waterhole restrictions. Our top priority is safety, and we may make adjustments to provide the best possible touring experience.

Guest participation: All passengers are requested to assist with basic duties, including packing and reloading the car, cleaning up after themselves, and preparing meals. It’s a laid-back, group activity to bond with other adventurers at the conclusion of the day.

Reconfirmation: Within seven days of departure, please confirm your tour details.

Our Commitment

We at Australia Tours are committed to protecting the distinctive flora and fauna found throughout our Uluru Tours. Protecting the various species that rely on this World Heritage-listed landscape and minimising disturbance are our top priorities. Additionally, we urge tourists to respect the Traditional Owners and demonstrate cultural sensitivity while travelling.

One of our main responsibilities is to advise visitors on eco-friendly travel strategies and to emphasise the importance of protecting wildlife and maintaining ecosystems in the areas we visit.

Traditional Owners

Autopia Tours would like to extend special thanks to the Wurundjeri people, the land’s traditional owners. We kindly request that all visitors remain aware of and respectful of Indigenous cultural sensitivities and the strong spiritual ties that First Nations communities have to their homelands.

Wildlife Encounters

All visitors are asked to watch wildlife responsibly and quietly. Animals are easily frightened by sudden movements and loud noises, so please move carefully and keep a respectful distance. Never try to interact with wildlife by touching, feeding, or otherwise.

Animals should never be fed or handled by anybody other than qualified wildlife handlers.

Please notify your guide or tour leader, a National Park Ranger, or the staff at the visitor centre right away if you see any wildlife that is hurt, upset, or in danger.

Protecting Our National Parks

All visitors must adhere to the guide’s or tour leader’s instructions, stay behind barriers, and remain on designated walking pathways for their own safety and to preserve delicate ecosystems.

It is not appropriate to remove any plant or animal matter from the environment.

Waste Management

We have trash cans in every one of our cars. Organic waste such as fruit peels and food scraps should not be disposed of on the ground.

To reduce single-use plastics, we recommend that every visitor to our Grampians Tour bring a reusable water bottle. It’s crucial to stay hydrated during the trip, especially in hot temperatures.

FAQ

What type of weather should I expect during this 3-day Red Centre trip?

Extreme temperature fluctuations are a well-known feature of the Red Centre. Nights can be quite cold, especially in winter, but days can be very hot, often over 35-40°C during the dry season. Always bring sufficient water, clothing, and sun protection. Your guide will modify activities for safety and offer advice on daily conditions.

How much walking is involved, and can I opt out of certain hikes?

The schedule includes 2-6 km daily hikes, along with the optional Kings Canyon Rim Walk. If they wish, travellers may avoid any hike, but they must remain on the bus or in designated safe waiting areas. Safety, weather, and visitor fitness levels are considered when determining suitability.

What facilities are available at the campgrounds?

Common facilities, including restrooms, hot showers, kitchen shelters, and basic solar power, are available at both the Uluru and Kings Canyon campgrounds. Due to the limited number of device charging ports, a portable power bank is recommended. While swag visitors sleep outside under the stars, safari tents provide beds and linen.

Can I store luggage anywhere if I’m carrying more than the tour limit?

It is normally possible to stow extra luggage at your hotel if you are starting and ending your journey in the same place (for example, Alice Springs or Yulara). Due to weight and space restrictions, the tour van cannot accommodate heavy or hard-shelled baggage.

What happens if weather or cultural closures affect the itinerary?

The Red Centre is a living entity. Changes or temporary closures inside Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park or Watarrka National Park may result from heavy rain, intense heat, or traditional ceremonies. In these situations, your guide will adjust the itinerary to ensure safety while still delivering the best experience. The goal of substituted activities is always to preserve the tour’s worth and complexity.
