The 2 Day Uluru Tour (Camping) lets you spend a night in the spiritual centre of Australia’s Red Centre. This trip takes you to iconic places and introduces you to the outback’s traditions, stories, and daily life. This journey is designed for small groups and takes you beyond the postcard views into the heart of the country. You’ll walk all the way around Uluru, see sacred rock art, see ancient waterholes, and enjoy stunning sunrises and sunsets. You can connect profoundly with the land and its people by going on guided tours of the Kata Tjuta domes, cooking dinner over a fire, and sleeping under a sky full of stars.
When solitary travellers buy a Safari Tent Twin Share, they will be paired with another solo traveller whenever possible. This is usually someone of the same gender, but it is not guaranteed. An adult must always be present with the children.
Please note that the weather, culture, and terrain in the Red Centre may affect the itinerary. Your guides will adjust plans as needed to ensure you have the best possible experience.
The Ayers Rock Resort in Yulara is where your trip into the outback starts. After getting on the bus, we go straight to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Please make sure you eat lunch first.
The Red Centre is a historic region rich in Indigenous culture and creation legends. Our first stop is the Uluru Cultural Centre, where we can learn about the Anangu people‘s history, traditions, and ongoing connection to the land. From there, we go to Uluru itself. We will walk along parts of its base, stop at the tranquil Mutitjulu Waterhole, view rock art panels, and hear Dreamtime legends about its features. We also visit Kantju Gorge, home to Central Australia’s largest waterfall and a sacred site for elders. The day ends with the renowned sunset over Uluru, and then we set up camp for dinner and a night under the stars in the desert.
Highlights:
Meals: Dinner (not included for guests boarding at Ayers Rock)
Camping: Private Ayers Rock Campsite – Permanent Tents or Bush Swags (communal facilities)
Driving Distance: 60 km
Hiking Distance: 2–3 km / 2–3 hours
Get up early and have a light breakfast before watching the sun rise over Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. It will be a spectacular sight as light spreads over both Uluru and the tall domes of Kata Tjuta.
Today, the focus is on walking about and exploring. You will hike either the Valley of the Winds trail or the Walpa Gorge trail, which takes you through the stunning rock formations that have been rising from the desert floor for more than 500 million years. These hikes show off the rough terrain, geology, and personality of this amazing place.
After the morning climb, we return to Yulara Resort or the Ayers Rock Campground for lunch and some time to reflect before the tour ends. We usually get there between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m., but things sometimes go wrong, so please don’t book flights before 2:15 p.m.
Highlights:
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch
Driving Distance: 150 km
Hiking Distance: 2–5 km / 2–4 hours (weather dependent)
Get ready for a two-day trip to the desert to see the stunning majesty of Uluru and Kata Tjuta, two of Australia’s most famous natural landmarks. Your certified guide will bring the area’s cultural legends and natural history to life as you travel through Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. You can stay in permanent safari tents or a classic bush swag, which is a traditional canvas bedroll that is great for sleeping outside under the stars. This journey is not about luxury; it’s about connection. You’ll have camp-style meals, talk around the campfire, look for wildlife, and have meaningful experiences that are what real outback travel is all about.
The weather in the Red Centre can change suddenly and deteriorate rapidly. Temperatures can exceed 50°C during the dry season, but they often drop sharply at night. Before you leave, check the average weather for your vacation dates and pack clothing that will keep you comfortable in both hot and cool conditions. The excursion will proceed as planned, even if it rains or the weather is bad, unless the operator contacts you to make alternative arrangements.

We strongly advise against booking flights that depart on the same day as the tour ends to minimise any issues with subsequent travel. Despite our team’s constant efforts to adhere to the schedule, unforeseen circumstances may cause delays. The traveller is responsible for all associated costs. It is strongly advised to purchase travel insurance to safeguard your plans and finances.
Dietary Requirements:
When making a reservation, please specify any dietary requirements. Since the tour visits remote areas, there are limited options when we return, so planning in advance is crucial.
Medical Conditions:
Before departure, inform the operator of any current health issues. This schedule requires a moderate level of fitness and includes physically demanding tasks. It is highly advised to purchase personal travel insurance.
Fitness Level:
Be prepared to walk two to three kilometres every day, frequently in full heat and high humidity, and occasionally on rocky and rough terrain. There may also be a longer walk of 4–8 km. To maintain group safety, participation in hikes is at the guide’s discretion. A medium-to-high level of fitness is required. A medical certificate must be presented by travellers aged 75 or older at least 30 days before departure.

We at Australia Tours are committed to protecting the distinctive flora, fauna, and landscapes that we see during our Uluru Tours. We strive to minimise environmental disturbance and safeguard the species that rely on this exceptional location as stewards of a UNESCO World Heritage site. At every step of the process, we also promote respect for Traditional Owners and cultural understanding.
Helping visitors understand low-impact travel strategies and the importance of preserving wildlife and the long-term health of the places we visit is a fundamental part of our job.

With special regard for the Wurundjeri people, Australia Tours recognises the land’s Traditional Owners. We ask all visitors to respect the strong spiritual and ancestral ties that Aboriginal tribes have to their homeland and to be conscious of cultural sensitivities.
Wildlife’s natural behaviour must always be respected. Visitors are advised to refrain from any personal contact, such as touching or feeding birds or other animals, as well as abrupt movements and loud noises while viewing animals. In addition to introducing dangerous infections, human contact can make animals act aggressively.
Animals should only be handled or fed by certified wildlife handlers. Human food can cause disease or dependency, change their natural foraging behaviours, and harm their digestive systems. Additionally, feeding wildlife may make them approach people in dangerous or aggressive ways.
Please notify your guide or tour leader, a National Park Ranger, or the staff at the visitor centre right away if you see an animal that seems hurt, upset, or in danger.
All visitors must follow their guide or tour leader’s instructions, stay within safety barriers, and stay on designated walking pathways to protect the environment and guests. Delicate ecosystems, wildlife habitats, and native vegetation can all be harmed by straying from the designated trails. Additionally, it can put you at risk from hazards such as overhanging branches, slick surfaces, cliff edges, and unstable rocks.
It is not allowed to remove any plants or animals, including dead timber, leaves, or flowers. Disturbing these natural resources can have detrimental effects on the environment, as they are vital to ecosystems.
There are trash cans in every car, and you shouldn’t toss organic waste on the ground. Fruit peels and bread are examples of natural food leftovers that might transmit disease, attract pests, or injure wildlife that isn’t used to them.
We suggest visitors bring their own reusable water bottle on our Grampians Tour and on all our trips. There are refill stations on our cars, and buying bottled water contributes needless plastic to landfills. Reducing the risk of heat exposure and dehydration requires staying hydrated.
All guides are currently certified in Level 2 First Aid. If you become ill or injured during the tour, please notify your guide immediately. Travellers with pre-existing medical issues should notify their guide at the beginning of the journey and pack all essential medications.
If you smoke, please utilise the designated smoking areas exclusively and stay away from other guests. Vehicles and all types of lodging, including permanent campsites, are off-limits to smokers. Smoking breaks are not guaranteed, although regular comfort stops are planned. Kindly dispose of cigarette butts in an appropriate manner.
