Groovy Grape Barossa Day Out is a full-day wine adventure through the Barossa Valley, a region famous for its wine, gourmet food, craft beer and all the quirky local experiences that make South Australia tick. We’re talking boutique cellar doors, wood-fired pizzas, local brews and chocolate treats – all mixed in with some seriously unique attractions.
The Groovy Grape Barossa Day Out is your key to experiencing the Barossa Valley in the way only true locals do – with a relaxed and totally laid-back atmosphere. We’re talking a day of class wines, great food, quality beer, sweet treats and stunning scenery, basically all the things that make the Barossa Valley so famous.
From the hills above the city to the cobblestone streets of Tanunda, we’ll explore the best of the Barossa Valley, and do it all with a group of like-minded travellers who just happen to be up for a great day out.
We kick off the day with a scenic drive through the Adelaide Hills. Our first stop is the Big Rocking Horse in Gumeracha, which is as big as you’d probably imagine and as fun to explore as you might hope. You can climb to the top for great countryside views or meet some kangaroos and wallabies down in the wildlife park.
Next up, we have some acoustic magic at the Whispering Wall. This is one of those unique attractions that you just have to see to believe. Stand at one end of the curved dam wall and whisper, and your voice will be clearly heard by the person standing at the other end. It really is pretty cool.
When you arrive in the Barossa Valley, the first place you’ll come across is Kies Family Wines, a sixth-generation family business owned and run by the Kies family. They offer a structured wine tasting of their handcrafted wines, so expect to get a good look at some fresh whites, their award-winning Shiraz, and their Monkey Nut Rosé. The whole thing is set in a beautifully intimate setting, with warm hospitality that’s just perfect for getting into the Barossa vibe.
Next up is a visit to Lambert Estate, where you’ll get to do a guided wine tasting in a stunning hilltop setting that gives you a real bird’s eye view of the vineyards. After that, they’ve got a wood-fired pizza lunch waiting for you; it’s a social dining experience, so you’ll have loads of chances to meet fellow travellers and swap a few stories.
Once you’ve finished lunch, you can get your sugar fix at Melba’s Chocolate Factory. Take a good look around at all the handmade chocolates, those old-fashioned sweets we used to love and all the other artisan treats on display; you might even find something to buy for later on.
For a bit of a change of pace, you can pop over to Rhen Bier Brewhouse and try some of their small-batch craft beers. Either try a tasting paddle and see what catches your eye, or just sit back and enjoy a cold beer while soaking in that classic Barossa hospitality.
Once you’ve finished all the winery stuff, take a bit of time to just wander around Tanunda, the heart of the Barossa. Grab a coffee, or a cold drink, or maybe a nice ice cream, and just soak up the historic town charm before heading back to Adelaide.
